Biographie

The American soprano, Janice Dixon, was born in the Jazz Metropolis New York City. Her father was a Jazz-Saxophonist and Jazz music was a part of her life since she was a small child.

She NEVER lost her love for this music even while she completed her classical music studies at the Aaron Copland School of Music majoring in Voice, Piano and Violin.

With the opera "Porgy and Bess" by George Gershwin, she could for the first time combine Jazz and Classic, in that she sang the title role of "Bess" in some of the largest opera houses in the world like New York, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Milan, London, Melbourne and Sydney.

She has worked with great orchestras like New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Symphony, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Virginia Symphony, gave a concert with the Trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie at the Newport Jazz-Festival and she has also performed with Graham Haynes, the son of the famous drummer Roy Haynes.

Since 1995 she has appeared as soloist with her bank all over in Germany, and these appearances were often taped for radio and TV. A few highlights are: "Jazz-Frühschoppen", "Jazz im Foyer" (Nationaltheater Mannheim), "Jazz im Quadrat", "Jazz-Nacht Bad Dürkheim", "Muddy's Club Weinheim", and the "International May Festival Wiesbaden".

Her CD "TAKE ONE" came out in 1998 and she is currently making a new recording.
